MG’s International Partnership with Afghanistan School
Article Posted: February 13, 2012
Members of the Mt. Greylock Peer Team and Amnesty International are working in tandem on an exciting international project organized by Lisa Jennings, Peer Team teacher, Larry Bell, HS Science teacher and Naomi LaChance, a MG senior. Students and their teacher advisers are working with the Peter Goodrich Foundation to provide science labs and equipment to the Logar School in Afghanistan. The project involves writing student-developed science labs, locating and purchasing equipment, having the labs translated and determining how to bring science and computer capability to an Afghanistan school with minimal electricity.
Don Goodrich of the Goodrich Foundation and Afghanistan Governor Amin met with our students in the fall and asked if they would volunteer their “time, brains and effort” to bring hands-on science and equipment – with funding help from the foundation – to the 700 all-girl Logar School in Afghanistan. Ms.Jennings and Mr.Bell meet with students during lunchtime.
On Friday, February 17th small groups of students will meet all day and compile the science lab lessons, and necessary science equipment. We are proud of our students involved in this international effort:
Katie Swoap, Laura Nolan, Kelsey Goodwin, Sam Quinn, Mary Tremblay, Eve Cleghorn, Alina Fein, Charlie Sutter,
Ned Kleiner, Evelyn Mahon, Vanessa Lopez, Hannah Paul, Rebekeh Packer, Nick Carson, Naomi LaChance, Grace Singleton, Alexandra DeVeaux, Chad Bolotin, Aaron Taylor, Hank Barrett,Hallie Walker and Ariana Bashara.
